Comments about Russound Load Balancing Speaker Selector SS4.2 Four Position:
This unit works as advertised, with the exception of accomodating 12ga. bare wire. I'm sure 14ga. would work fine...however I didn't try. My existing wire runs for this application are 12ga., thus I was quite disappointed that I could not make the hook-up with bare wire.
Ended up crimping pin-type connectors onto my wires and inserting into the spring connectors. Not ideal, but it works ok.
If you go this route also, be careful when moving the box into it's final nesting place. Pin connectors can tend to pop out of the spring connectors on the box when moving it around. The box is very lightweight and I found it best to stabilize it prior to doing my hook-ups. I used double-sided tape on the feet(4) and placed the box into it's final position prior to doing the hook-ups. Works for me...YMMV.
It really is a nice little box, especially if your using smaller than 12ga. wire (i.e. 14/16). I needed 12ga. for my long outdoor runs, but many folks will not. The speaker selector buttons(4) have a nice solid feel. The impedence matching I/O switch is on the back so it doesn't get inadvertantly bumped to the wrong position by the unknowing...large or small. I like that.
So I would recommend it with the listed reservations. These may not apply to you. Hope this helps some/many of you. Probably could have given this unit a '4' but man, I really loathe those cheesy little spring connectors that this box (and many others!) has/have. OK '3.5'
