Comments about JA Audio JA Audio EX-I65 Extreme Series 6 1/2 in. 2 Way In-Wall Speakers:

This was my first foray into in-wall speakers. I did quite a bit of research into speaker features and found these very reasonably priced for the features. Upon receiving the speakers I was disappointed to find the frames had a lot of relief -- were more picture-frame-like than smooth like the center channel speaker or what I saw in all the stores and other examples.

I also found it difficult to paint the speaker grills. After a number of mistakes, getting paint on the cloth backing and having to rinse the speaker and start over, I realized I could peel off the backing, then paint the speakers using a fine sprayer, then put the backings back on. This worked great...if only I'd leaned sooner. By this time I had stained the backings on all the speakers and will be looking for replacement cloth material, hopefully in some sort of matching tan/dark brown colors rather than white. The painting/ installation instructions could have been better.

I installed the speakers at about head hight due to cabinets and other furniture issues and so wanted to point the tweeters downward. This was extremely difficult and resulted in damaging one of the tweeters. The rotate upward real easy, and I suppose I could have installed the speakers with the tweeter on the bottom, but too late. I'll probably have to replace one of the speakers at some point but at this time I can't hear any problems.
